well, may be we will need rework some of this - I am not sure if you can just slap two files legally. May be I need to put those functions back in one specific file and just add this file (with version check) to build.. 
Yeah, I was not too sure about this but it did not affect linux so thought it was needed for BSD.

    If I remember correctly, Centos was still at python2 awhile back and maybe some really old distros.
   BUT if I do not remember correctly, there may be another good reason for staying at python2?
