MP2 is certainly a legitimate audio format for DVD.  Unfortunately, choosing MPEG audio and then clicking on the wrench to get Layer II (2) rather than Layer III (3) produces the exact same x.mp3 results.  Maybe there is another trick that Andrew knows about?

Is it possible to get MP2 audio; if possible how and where to set it on the create DVD or Batch render window?
I tried to check FFmpeg there, but could not see MP2.

try "MPEG AUDIO" and select "II" in settings ...?

but it will be re-encoded.
