IgorB,
Like Andrea, I do not get any slow downs - either from using the mouse in the patchbay to disarm any of the video/audio tracks or from using Shift-U to add the Dissolve transition.  I created 50 clips and tested on my laptop with Fedora AND on Ubuntu 16 desktop environment with the alternative shortcuts version.

Also varied the cache size in Settings to way low and way high.  When I ran "top" on another window to watch my memory usage, I do see MiB Mem: "used" go up on the creation of another clip, but only by about 2.  Note that "top" also shows MiB Swap: which in my case is always at 0.0 used.

The only things I can think of that might be the problem are:
1. Possibly you are out of Memory and Swapping -- you can check this by running "top" from another window to check. Even though the shortcut "tab" is working correctly, it executes a different set of program code than using the mouse.
2. Or could it be that the Ubuntu operating system on Charlie is fielding the mouse differently when low on memory? whereas Cinelerra directly fields the "tab" key?

A while back, I noticed improvements in CinGG's responsiveness by setting:

1- Settings --> preferences --> performance --> Cache size (MB): 4096
2- Settings --> preferences --> performance --> Seconds to preroll renders: 1.0000

This probably isn't related to your problem, but it might help to set these parameters optimally for your “Charlie.”
