---- (This is already in your document, but I like your explanation in the manual.) Difference: terminology of edits used for what other NLEs call clips. Solution: see Nomenclature (which is quoted below) in the Editing chapter. media loaded in the timeline, in whole or in part, are called edits, unlike other programs that call them clips. "Nomenclature: media loaded in the timeline, in whole or in part, are called edits, unlike other programs that call them clips. Clips in CINELERRA-GG are those that are created in the Viewer window or in the timeline via the to clip command and brought into the Resources window, inside the Clips folder, where they can be renamed and a description added. These, once brought into the timeline, are renamed edits. In CINELERRA-GG the difference edits/clips is not important and you can use them as synonyms; however, the difference of clips as it is intended in other NLEs is important. These are media (or parts of it) complete in themselves and indipendent from other clips and the timeline. Edits in CINELERRA-GG on the other hand, can be a media (or part of it) but can also be any region of the timeline between In/Out Points or from a highlighted, on which we can do editing operations. This leads to some advantages (e.g. putting an effect only in a part of the active region) but one must always keep in mind that the edit remains dependent on the track and the entire timeline." ---- ---- Difference: what is called Three Points Editing in some other programs (not sure if in Premiere Pro though) Solution: use Two Screen Editing (see place in manual) for a fast way to construct a program out of movie files. ---- ---- Difference: placement of subtitles directly on a track can not be done; i.e. loading video with embedded subtitles does not load subtitl track. Solution: there is a separate subtitl track for this work which has some advantages. But you can not change options/font. ---- ---- Difference: Color management - does not exist in CinGG Solution: - see Best practice in pre-editing - + For more tips on how CINELERRA-GG processes colors on the timeline see Color Space and Color Range Affecting Playback, Automatic "Best Model" Media Load and Overview on Color Management. --- Difference: Playing is slower than PP. Solution: - do not Play every frame while working in certain situations (change in settings). Drawing video thumbnails, picons, on the time line can be very slow. There are ways provided in the manual for wayt to help for smaller/slower computer. For example, you can disable picon drawing for these files with the draw media toggle in the patchbay to speed up operations. ----
