Hello, when I put a fade in the title video effect (here the white "Hello" text https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJLj0w6NUSo) you can see that letters appears as a black flash briefly in the first few frames, then goes back to transparent, then the fade starts normally with the white color. Does anyone know how to fix this? I have the same problem when using transparent PNG images with fade video transitions, first black, then normal transparency. Thank you very much, Bests, Camille.
Camille, I do not know what the problem is or how to fix it and viewing the video on my phone is not working. Hopefully, Andrea can look at this tomorrow and maybe he knows if it can be worked around or if it is a bug. ...Phyllis On Sun, Mar 7, 2021 at 1:47 PM Camille Harang via Cin < [email protected]> wrote:

Hi Camille, Could it be that you used a transition to fade in the text? I think that might be the reason. I would try fading in and out of text using the fade line instead of a "normal" transition. Using the "Window" menu and then "Show Overlays" will open a new window. The fifth option "Fade" should be activated, so you can see the fade line in the timeline, with this you can fade in and out. You only have to set a keyframe and drag the line up or down, this changes the visibility of the text. This variant should be more suitable in my opinion. Maybe you can try it, I'm curious if it helps. Sam Am 08.03.21 um 04:42 schrieb Phyllis Smith via Cin:

Maybe I didn't understand well how to repeat the test. I put the title plugin both in a part of the track containing a video and in an empty part; I played with the fade curve increasing and decreasing its value continuously. Doing a playback I can't find flash for the duration of the timeline. I have tried with AppImage and with Build. Can you explain in detail the steps you took so I can retest? PS: a test you can do is to put the title plugin on a higher track dedicated only to titles.
Hello, thank you for your reply, fade curve works fine, it's the transition video filter that is buggy. Can you reproduce it with the transition? Thanks again, Camille. Le 8 mars 2021 14:06:37 GMT+01:00, Andrea paz via Cin <[email protected]> a écrit :

Hi Sam, thanks for your reply, yes the fade line works, however it's not suitable for what I want to do, I want to fade many snippets of text and transparent PNGs on the same track, with always the same video transition filter set to the same duration. Otherwise it's too complicated to combine them on two tracks and adjust manually the fade curve for each. I posted the example of fade in text parameter as it's simpler than transition do explain, but it produces the same "black flash" bug. Thank you, Camille. Le 08/03/2021 à 13:55, Sam via Cin a écrit :

Camille, Honestly, I never see a flash and I have tried several variations based on your description with the "fade in text parameter" being the easiest. I did do a recording of it and planned to show that but the recording does not do a precise capture job so you can not tell it is working correctly. There was no flash when playing at normal speed and then I tried single stepping and still no flash. Andrea, I will try attaching a screenshot of how to set this up easily with the hopes that you can try that. Camille, I vaguely remember such a similar case, but it was a very long time ago, hence this old work around with the fade line. However, after trying to reproduce this problem currently, I have not succeeded. It runs fine every time, just like Phyllis, without the problem you describe. My question to you. Which Cinelerra version are you using? Can you show a screenshot or short video of your timeline scenario and what parameters are set on your end so we can better reproduce the error? Maybe we missed a setting you are doing and with an exact match of the setting we can reproduce this issue. Thanks in advance. Sam Am 09.03.21 um 00:48 schrieb Phyllis Smith via Cin:

Camille, you are right. I am sorry. Unfortunately I know the problem about antialiasing; sometimes I can use this my trick. Usually I use a different workflow (I think like Sam wrote). I put the Title effects in a separate VideoTrack and the PNGs in an other VideoTrack because I want to have the full control of every edit using copy/paste keyframes. Thanks! Hi Igor, yes usually I do that, but in that case I have many PNGs and titles in queue of eachother, that's why I tried to make it work. It would be quicker and homegenic filter duration. I can understand you Camille. For your goal it is more complicated with copy and paste: a lot of work you must do! And you should use two tracks with the PNGs arranged in a check pattern (with Autos FadeIn/Out). I would like to remember two things here (... and probably it is superfluous). 1. Fade In/Out in Title Effect. It works fine if there is a clip/image above the Title effect, in the same track, without alpha channel. Fade In/Out works bad when ther isn't any clip/image: alpha channel issue? 2. Transition Effect. It works fine when there is a Transition between two clips/images without alpha channel. With Plugins (Effects) there are problems because Cinelerra[HV-CV-GG] is track based. Thanks! IgorBeg Il 10/03/2021 09:46, Camille Harang via Cin ha scritto:

Camille, A Freelancer has provided a fix for the fade bug in Title plugin and the Dissolve transition BUT I can not tell for sure if it is a correct fix (seems to work on Fedora O/S with your black flash demo). I have asked IgorBeg to test if he has time. A little more information is in BT #559. If you would like to test for yourself, there is a new AppImage that works on both older and newer distros at: https://cinelerra-gg.org/download/testing/cin_for_older_distros.AppImage For those not yet familar with using an AppImage, all you have to do is download the file (does not destroy your current Cinelerra) and make it executable via a window command: chmod +x cin_for_older_distros.AppImage and then just run it from a window via: ./cin_for_older_distros.AppImage If anyone else tests, PLEASE provide feedback -- the only problem I had was that for an older Ubuntu 16 distro I have to use a new $HOME/.bcast5 to get it to work correctly.
Thank you,
Camille.

If you would like to test for yourself, there is a new AppImage that works on both older and newer distros at: https://cinelerra-gg.org/download/testing/cin_for_ older_distros.AppImage For those not yet familar with using an AppImage, all you have to do is download the file (does not destroy your current Cinelerra) and make it executable via a window command: chmod +x cin_for_older_distros.AppImage and then just run it from a window via: ./cin_for_older_distros.AppImage
If anyone else tests, PLEASE provide feedback -- the only problem I had was that for an older Ubuntu 16 distro I have to use a new $HOME/.bcast5 to get it to work correctly.

I vaguely remember such a similar case, but it was a very long time ago, hence this old work around with the fade line.

Here is the demo playing the whole timeline https://streamable.com/v29e38 What I am so worried about this mod is because it probably affects the "Overlay Modes" in the Patchbay. That is Arithmetic, Logical, Normal, Porter Duff, Graphic -- I do not mind testing them but I am not sure that I can do a good job. Camille,
I vaguely remember such a similar case, but it was a very long time ago, hence this old work around with the fade line.

Basically, I just created about 3 seconds of nothing and added a Title plugin making sure to set the Fade parameter on the Title menu to 3.0 seconds (I use the reset button first to make sure there are no leftover weird settings).

Thank you,
Camille.

sorry, streamable returns 'address not found' error if I try to follow this or any other similar link :(
What I am so worried about this mod is because it probably affects the "Overlay Modes" in the Patchbay. That is Arithmetic, Logical, Normal, Porter Duff, Graphic -- I do not mind testing them but I am not sure that I can do a good job.
well... it also probably will add some cpu overhead... may be 'gamma' plugin can also hide this flashing effect? (looking purely at how changes named...)

Andrew, Also, I downloaded your mp4 and looking at the bottom times on the main window towards the right side, you should see problem at: 0:00:04:01 and 0:00:25:07 IF you loaded the example starting at the beginning of the timeline.
you mean by deleting part of timeline just before first title plugin?
I can't see flash in this demo, even if in Youtube video at 0.25 speed I clearly can see it (
I also tried to check and uncheck 'play every frame' - but still bug not surfaced *for me now* even if I think I saw it on my desktop machine...
new demo.. https://cloud.mail.ru/public/fBmm/mpXTuszzH
When I play yours I do not see it playing at that time. I "think" I see the flash at 0:00:06:2---- but the time stamp is cut off in your demo.

Hi Phyllis, thanks for your reply, I think you see no black flash because you don't have a black background. I'll make a screen record. Thanks again, Camille. Le 09/03/2021 à 00:48, Phyllis Smith via Cin a écrit :

Hi Camille,
Could it be that you used a transition to fade in the text? I think that might be the reason. I would try fading in and out of text using the fade line instead of a "normal" transition. Using the "Window" menu and then "Show Overlays" will open a new window. The fifth option "Fade" should be activated, so you can see the fade line in the timeline, with this you can fade in and out. You only have to set a keyframe and drag the line up or down, this changes the visibility of the text. This variant should be more suitable in my opinion. Maybe you can try it, I'm curious if it helps.

Thank you very much,
Bests,
Camille.
