If we get available a packaged Cingg test build (rpm/Leap for me), it would be more useful to do this test. Then I have available three gen. Intel, legacy Skylake/Kabylake iGPUs and current DG2/Arc GPU. I also have/had a Nvidia GPU on Skylake, but it looks like it past away. I think you can build rpm yourself, but for this we need to update spec file, so it will point at new source and add openvpl as requirements.
In meantime you can just make your own appimage from just build cingg-with-system-ffmpeg, so it hopefully will not be lost after few system updates.
Well, first: After my ffmpeg upgrade from v. 7.0.2 to the awaited v. 7.1 on Slowroll yesterday, my "just build " cingg-with-system-ffmpeg won't startup. yeah, fragility of system build. make sure you have working qsv/vaapi profiles in some safe dir away from cinelerra-5.1 cd cinelerra-5.1 as always, note configure parameters you used head config.log copy command line ( ./configure ... ) into some easy to open document make clean ./autogen.sh paste configure line you copied to easy to find document before. OR enter new configure line with all needed switches < they start with "--" > (for example if you patched source with my libvpl.patch) make make install return profiles to bin/ffmpeg run bin/cin investigate appimage build ;) I am currently a bit stuck rebuilding Appimage's runtime - developer's life .. you can use binary from github as per instruction.

you can try to locate libavformat either by pkg-config pkg-config --cflags libavformat or find /usr -name avformat.h then add CFLAGS=-I/path_to_dir_where_avformat dir_located/ and re-run ./configure and make. last time it was something like /usr/include/ffmpeg

My question is which steps (back) to rebuild Cingg for the new ffmpeg 7.1 ?
yeah, fragility of system build.
make sure you have working qsv/vaapi profiles in some safe dir away from cinelerra-5.1
cd cinelerra-5.1
as always, note configure parameters you used
head config.log
copy command line ( ./configure ... ) into some easy to open document
make clean
./autogen.sh
paste configure line you copied to easy to find document before.
./configure --with-single-user --disable-static-build --without-thirdparty --without-libdpx
OR
enter new configure line with all needed switches < they start with "--" > (for example if you patched source with my libvpl.patch)
make
Unhappily I got several fatal errors like:
ffmpeg.h:48:10: fatal error: libavformat/avformat.h: No such file or directory 48 | #include "libavformat/avformat.h" | ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ compilation terminated.
During the testinstalls of ffmpeg 7.1 first from obs: and lastly from Packman, I had to deinstall several packages due to dependice errors. So I think there may be some missing packages. I tried to add ffmpeg
you can try to locate libavformat either by pkg-config

Apparently Cingg also has to be rebuilt or upgraded to the new ffmpeg 7.1 family version, as it claims at startup attempt:

Apparently Cingg also has to be rebuilt or upgraded to the new ffmpeg 7.1 family version, as it claims at startup attempt:

I tried to add ffmpeg
you can try to locate libavformat either by pkg-config
pkg-config --cflags libavformat
or find /usr -name avformat.h
then add CFLAGS=-I/path_to_dir_where_avformat dir_located/ and re-run ./configure and make.
last time it was something like /usr/include/ffmpeg
Yes, thanks - it is the same location this time, but it still doesn't cleanup make
localhost:/home/cinelerra/cinelerra-5.1 #
# pkg-config --cflags libavformat -I/usr/include/ffmpeg Rendering to av1_qsv.mp4 worked # CFLAGS=-I/usr/include/ffmpeg
you probably need to set it by adding export command before CFLAGS or add CFLAGS part on the same line where you run configure
Yes, thanks for the help. I used
#export CFLAGS=-I/usr/include/ffmpeg
and then the rest worked fine.
Enough for me today !

This rebuild cingg to use ffmpeg 7.1 startup ok and testing DV rendering to av1_qsv_nv12.mp4, av1_qsv_nv12.webm and also av1_qsv_p010le.webm work.

does ffmpeg 7.1 itself work for this type of encoding and same input file ?
Yes, I tried three varants of ffmpeg codelines, and all renderend hdv to av1_qsv.webm ok
Do h264/hevc qsv encoders still work?
No, I got the following Cingg output errors:

Try to set vprofile instead of profile? For invalid picture structure .. does it go away if you deinterlace video track? i suspect that we should focus on one ffmpeg version that was working (7.0) instead of chasing new and improved breackage On Wed, Oct 23, 2024 at 2:49 AM Terje J.
But the same rendering from hdv does not longer work, tried also with BT.709 setting.
does ffmpeg 7.1 itself work for this type of encoding and same input file ?
Yes, I tried three varants of ffmpeg codelines, and all renderend hdv to av1_qsv.webm ok
Do h264/hevc qsv encoders still work?
No, I got the following Cingg output errors:
looks like ffmpeg changed some parsing code :/ you can try to replace high/main words with numbers like 0,1 but .....it will be sad if one set of profiles will not work for pre 7.1 and 7.1 :/
I got hevc_qsv to work both with uncommenting # profile and by setting profile=0 and profile=1

ffmpeg as cli does its own option processing, as far as I understand. Using av_dict_* functions in c++ code was working with libav*/ffmpeg libs up to 7.0 but evidently not after.. I'll look into what ffmpeg cli does now, but if more changes in pipeline may be we better to skip 7.1 completely? I also do not know why output become progressive (flagged?) after upgrade. May be some default changed. Sorry, but can I suggest to put this build aside and retry with 7.0 built-in (+libvpl patch) so at least we will have point of reference?

# cat hevc_qsv.mp4 mp4 hevc_qsv # only usable with ext. ffmpeg, another pixfmt is yuyv422 profile=main cin_pix_fmt=nv12
The current av1_qsv profiles contents are as follows (tried to copy them from previous ffmpeg 7.0.2 backup):

Try to set vprofile instead of profile?
Doesn't this correspond to what we previously also discussed for ffmpeg 7.0.2?
ffmpeg as cli does its own option processing, as far as I understand.
Using av_dict_* functions in c++ code was working with libav*/ffmpeg libs up to 7.0 but evidently not after..
I'll look into what ffmpeg cli does now, but if more changes in pipeline may be we better to skip 7.1 completely?
Well, I was happy to get the system 7.1 finally, but can set it on hold as a bin_71 backup, f.x until 7.1 come as internal upgrade to Cingg.
I also do not know why output become progressive (flagged?) after upgrade. May be some default changed.
This was not a big thing from or to - just something I noticed when I looked on the result when deinterlacing was testing.
Sorry, but can I suggest to put this build aside and retry with 7.0 built-in (+libvpl patch) so at least we will have point of reference?
Yes, this was also my next test plan when 7.1 system was working, backed up (Appimage) and installed from rpm on my two legacy Skylake iHD/Kabylake uHD platforms. Now it seems reasonable to continue directly on that thread.

Cingg renders standard PAL DV 5765i when the h264_qsv "profile" is changed to "vprofile", though there are some other fail/err messages in the output

For invalid picture structure .. does it go away if you deinterlace video track?
So far standard PAL 1080i HDV is not accepted as input for h264_qsv rendering, which is too bad (tested it worked as deinterlaced to DV 16:9)
------------
i suspect that we should focus on one ffmpeg version that was working (7.0) instead of chasing new and improved breackage
For me it looks like the interface? issues lay more on the Cin side, because my three tested command line variants for av1_qsv encoding work for ffmpeg 7.1 as well as on the 7.0.2 predecessor:

I forgot to mention that I haven't applied specific patches to the last built based on ffmpeg 7.1, other than the copied profiles from previous built based on ffmpeg 7.0.2
Have made a shortcut symlink /Cin
ls -l /Cin lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 29 Oct 22 20:23 /Cin -> /home/cinelerra/cinelerra-5.1
localhost:/Cin/bin/ffmpeg/video #
# ls *_qsv* av1_qsv.dfl av1_qsv.mp4 av1_qsv.webm h264_qsv.mp4 h265_qsv.mp4 hevc_qsv.mp4 vp9_qsv.mp4
Here the h264/hevc qsv profiles contain:
# cat h264_qsv.mp4 mp4 h264_qsv # only usable with ext. ffmpeg profile=high cin_pix_fmt=nv12
# cat hevc_qsv.mp4 mp4 hevc_qsv # only usable with ext. ffmpeg, another pixfmt is yuyv422 profile=main cin_pix_fmt=nv12
The current av1_qsv profiles contents are as follows (tried to copy them from previous ffmpeg 7.0.2 backup):
localhost:/home/cinelerra/cinelerra-5.1/bin/ffmpeg/video #
cat av1_qsv.dfl av1_qsv.webm

cat av1_qsv.webm webm av1_qsv # only usable with ext. ffmpeg cin_pix_fmt=nv12 ------------
As shown in the Cingg output below: [av1_qsv @ 0x7f4788de7200] Current picture structure is unsupported [av1_qsv @ 0x7f4788de7200] some encoding parameters are not supported by the QSV runtime. Please double check the input parameters. FFMPEG::open_encoder err: Function not implemented

may be we better to skip 7.1 completely?
This is disturbing. Usually if something is not working in one version, it is still carried to the next. ... Snip, Snip, Snip! Doesn't this correspond to what we previously also discussed for ffmpeg
7.0.2?
ffmpeg as cli does its own option processing, as far as I understand.
Using av_dict_* functions in c++ code was working with libav*/ffmpeg libs up to 7.0 but evidently not after..
I'll look into what ffmpeg cli does now, but if more changes in pipeline may be we better to skip 7.1 completely?

I crossposted my frustration with current situation (when ffmpeg team one-sidely breaks not just us but everyone downstream) earlier this day. Of course team of professional developers will change their part (breaking things) much faster and effortlessly than I ever can hope to repair them. Because ffmpeg apparently set to 2-3 release per year, with unknown amount of breakage each time ...I am not really eager to fix something twice. yuv range fix still not agreed upon, as far as I can, may be it will end up as rework and not just fix. I amnot sure if 7.1 makes much sense for us in itself? Of course breakage that come in 7.2/8.0 might be so big that I'll prefer to fix 7.1 instead. My main worry that even outside ff-scale filter and profile vs vprofile change something broke with some vaapi/qsv profiles, and it might be harder to track down. Right now 7.1 *builds* fine if you add renamed patch10 at least, but on runtime ..... we have all those errors Terje reported.

Apparently Cingg also has to be rebuilt or upgraded to the new ffmpeg 7.1 family version, as it claims at startup attempt:

I tried to add ffmpeg
you can try to locate libavformat either by pkg-config
pkg-config --cflags libavformat
or find /usr -name avformat.h
then add CFLAGS=-I/path_to_dir_where_avformat dir_located/ and re-run ./configure and make.
last time it was something like /usr/include/ffmpeg
