For discussion.... Here is the draft text that I propose to integrate into the current page about Cinelerra on Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinelerra) Pierre Cinelerra-GG Infinity: A separate branch of Cinelerra and the result of a longstanding programming work by W.P. Morrow (aka "goodguy"), Cinelerra-GG (CinGG) integrated the code of "Cinelerra-HV" from the beginning and its development went through "Cinelerra.Org" then "Cinelerra-CV" before continuing its growth in a completely distinct and autonomous way, now supported by its own site (https://www.cinelerra-gg.org). Cinelerra-GG is entirely free (GNU General Public License). It is the result of a long process of merging the code of the different branches and versions of Cinelerra and the additions available from many developers. It specially incorporates many original improvements (which have been and are still very often initiated at the request of its users). Cinelerra-GG is determined to get as close as possible to what can be expected from a "professional" level video editing software (NLE) for the Linux platform. Cinelerra-GG is very attentive to the requests and suggestions of its users, in the same way all proposals for code improvement submitted by developers are enthusiastically received. The "mailing list" (https://lists.cinelerra-gg.org/mailman/listinfo/cin), the "bug tracker" (https://www.cinelerra-gg.org/bugtracker/my_view_page.php) and the "forum" (https://www.cinelerra-gg.org/forum/) allow for discussions and exchanges of information. The list of additional new features that Cinelerra-GG adds to those already present in other branches is now too long to list in this short presentation. Instead, see the following document, which compares in a table the characteristics and features of the different Cinelerra branches: (https://cinelerra-gg.org/download/differences.pdf). Cinelerra-GG does not fall within the scope of version numbering of other Cinelerra branches. It is rather in perpetual development (Scrum model) and in a very dynamic way; Cinelerra-GG updates, which are intended to be "stable" quality, are published monthly for a large number of Linux and FreeBSD distributions. These rolling releases contain fixes to reported bugs as well as frequent feature improvements. To obtain Cinelerra-GG: https://www.cinelerra-gg.org/downloads

Thanks for the first draft. I got the following impressions. I miss the summary of the special features, a reference to the feature page is probably not enough, like for example: Ffmpeg support LV2 support, like Calf Studio Gear motion graphics Smart Folders, any creation of filters for media according to very specific criteria 8K Support MultiCamera Support proxy 10-bit color space Live preview of resource files Advance Tim Feature Nested Clips shared tracks Preferences for rendering to YouTube Saving of different layouts (workspace) In addition to the description of the rolling release procedure, I would write that the name Infinity would be chosen instead of the version number because it is a constantly repeating process of development that never actually stops as long as the product exists. The internal version number is always the year and the last month, for example 2018-12, it is used in the bug tracker, so that we know what version of the software we are talking about. That's all. :-) Sam
This is Sam the modified version of my draft, I think it's as far as I can go at the moment. If you have the opportunity, it may be better if you take over here; you are better equipped than me to integrate the logo and useful images on the Wikipedia page if necessary. Pierre Cinelerra-GG Infinity A separate branch of Cinelerra and the result of a longstanding programming work by W.P. Morrow (aka "goodguy"). Cinelerra-GG (CinGG) has integrated the code of "Cinelerra-HV" from the beginning and its development has taken place first with the site of "Cinelerra.Org", then with that of "Cinelerra-CV", before continuing its growth in a distinct way now through its own site (https://www.cinelerra-gg.org). Cinelerra-GG is entirely free (GNU General Public License). It is the result of a long process of merging the code of the different Cinelerra branches and the additions available from many developers. It also incorporates many original improvements (which have been and are still very often initiated at the request of its users). Cinelerra-GG is determined to get as close as possible to what can be expected from a "professional" level video editing software (NLE) for the Linux platform. Users and developers interested in Cinelerra-GG have the opportunity to make their difficulties, requests or proposals known through a bug tracker, a mailing list and a forum, which allow discussions and exchanges of information. Cinelerra-GG has many unique features. They include support for recent versions of Ffmpeg, "Ultra HD up to "8K", an interface for audio "LV2" plugins (such as Calf Studio Gear), multi-camera editing, and the simple use of "Proxy" to lighten the workload of a computer with insufficient power, Smart Folders media filtering, a version with 10-bit color space, Advance Trim, Live Preview of resources, Nested clips, Shared tracks, rendering preconfiguration options for YouTube and the ability to save workspace layouts. The list of Cinelerra-GG features and characteristics is long. It is possible to make an objective comparison between the different branches of Cinelerra by using the table in the following document: (https://cinelerra-gg.org/download/differences.pdf). Cinelerra-GG does not fall within the scope of version numbering of other Cinelerra branches. The term "Infinity" attached to its name suggests that it is rather in perpetual development (Scrum model); Cinelerra-GG updates identified internally by their release date, are published monthly for a large number of Linux and FreeBSD distributions. These rolling releases contain a significant number of changes. On 19-01-05 17 h 23, Sam wrote:

I think the new text is much better. However, I thought of a few small things while recapitulating the text that we might want to include after all. CinelerraGG can also use the program library OpenCV. The best OpenCV plugin is the FindObject, with which you can do motion tracking. I would also write that we have repositories and single-user builds for the following Linux distributions: Ubuntu, Debian, Arch, OpenSuse, Slackware, Fedora, Centos, Mint, FreeBSD. The source code is also available, so the capable user Cinelerra could compile it on other distros as well. Thanks for your initiative and help Pierre! Sam Am 06.01.19 um 15:11 schrieb Phyllis Smith:

Hi Sam, I'm sure that your current proximity to the evolution of Cinelerra-GG will allow you to know better than I do what should be added to the text. I'm just suggesting that it would be better to confine the features highlighted to those that are exclusive to CinGG; that is, those that are not also found on other Cinelerra branches. I understand your point and I agree. So far everything is fine. Thx. Am 06.01.19 um 15:50 schrieb Pierre autourduglobe:

For discussion about the wikipaedia article, GG and I both read it. He considers wikipaedia like an encyclopedia so the more factual, the better. Cinelerra-GG is very attentive to the requests and suggestions of its
users, in the same way all proposals for code improvement submitted by developers are enthusiastically received. The "mailing list" (https://lists.cinelerra-gg.org/mailman/listinfo/cin), the "bug tracker" (https://www.cinelerra-gg.org/bugtracker/my_view_page.php) and the "forum" (https://www.cinelerra-gg.org/forum/) allow for discussions and exchanges of information.
GG likes the above paragraph but wants to "dial back expectations" because things change quickly and I don't think we need to include more URLs because they are readily available once you get to the website. Maybe reword something like "significant number of changes on a monthly basis" after "some discussion and exchanges of information". The list of additional new features that Cinelerra-GG adds to those
already present in other branches is now too long to list in this short presentation. Instead, see the following document, which compares in a table the characteristics and features of the different Cinelerra branches: (https://cinelerra-gg.org/download/differences.pdf).
Or something that include the differences document "illustrates differences available for users to consider".
