well, guess I know this by now :}
I tried different image processing lib based on same framework, it seems
(G'MIC) and ...compilation IS slow! (more than 10 min for one target!)
https://pixls.us/blog/2018/02/g-mic-2-2/
https://github.com/dtschump/CImg/issues/41
https://gmic.eu:443/files/source/
patched a bit 2.2.3, because it was last with GTK gimp plugin version
and I don't have qt5 here ....
https://discuss.pixls.us/t/gmic-gimp-gtk-no-go/8058
But as bonus I have some new filters for GIMP :}
(they also process 1440x900 image up to some seconds ..)
and as second bonus I have some cool demos standalone :}
I tried greycstoration plugin in Cinelerra-CV from mid-2017 - and it was slow
in runtime, too.
