Thank you for your hard work on Cin. I'm using the latest official release
of Cin for Ubuntu. My issue: ------------- No matter what I try, when
placing a video

Yes, see attached. I am not sure what the problem is but maybe another
user will have an idea of what might be going wrong.
Meanwhile, I will see if I can duplicate your scenario.

Hello Phyllis,

Thank you for your assistance. Yes this is exactly what I'm looking to do.

I've been doing a lot of googling, and old post mentioned to try fiddling
with the camerra/projector along with crop feature.

I am able to achieve my goal that way, but it is quite time consuming and
error prone.

It certainly would be nice if a video is cropped, and I select normal (or
whichever mode) from patchbay overlay selector and it "just work"

The only idea I can think of is to check in the patchbay if the Fade
slider is at 100% and also if its upper limit is set to 100.
Also try using CinGG's appimage, it's more up to date than the Ubuntu
package.

-----------

Thank you for sending me the screen shot and the advice.

I've downloaded the most up to date app image, "cin_for_newer_distros.AppImage"
as I'm on Ubuntu 21.04.

The md5sum for the file was 6053512f2d26fbc13432632eeaa52017

I still have the same issue with this new release as well.

Just to confirm my setup and workflow, since I'm coming from Shotcut, and
not a cin
user historically:

Qty (2) 2560x1440p videos encoded from OBS in h264 using 8bit YUV format.
I've double checked my "Settings ->Format" and have YUV 8 Bit there, with
1440p as the dimensions of my project.
I then open the resources, load the two files.
I add each one of them to a video track.
They both start at time zero in the timeline.
The upper most track, I add a "Scale" filter , choose some small size and
Cinelerra just
adds black all around the portions unused.

If I try the crop and position, same thing. Cin just throws black color
around my
top most video.

I've tried each and every possible overlay mode.

I've confirmed that the levels of the fader are at 100 %.

Only one or two of the overlay types allow me to see the video in track 2 -
the one
underneath. But the top most video, has a fair amount of transparency to it
and I'd like it to be 100% opaque.

To date, the only way I can get the top track to be smaller and cropped and
positioned
over track 2 with 100% opaque is to fiddle using crop/scale/position
filters and then adjust the
projector.

Thank you again for assistance.

-----------------

Oh I've even tried to put a simple jpeg over top of a 1440p video, and cin
just throws black all around the photo, and cannot see the video underneath
as well.

It seem's like cin is not throwing transparency where there should be *NO*
video or photo on the upper tracks.
