You should not have to compile as root. If there is a difference in
behaviour between user and root build, it should be fixed.

both static and AppImage do not include all libraries. If static
included enough, maybe the AppImage would not be needed, if newer
system libraries are backwards compatible enough.
On the other hand, it would get much bigger.
