To summarize: in the digital domain, one can use the concept of SAR
when dealing with anamorphic digital formats (for example, when
transcoding to a format that has a different aspect ratio). Similarly,
in the context of "Standard-definition television or with DV, HDV and
a few other formats, SAR is used through the formula DAR = SAR x
(W/H), where SAR is the conversion factor between anamorphic Input and
Output.
