April 2022 AppImages
by Phyllis Smith 01 May '22

01 May '22

CinGG new appimages for April 2022 are now available along with updated release notes and manual. Look for 0430 in: https://cinelerra-gg.org/download/images/ Thanks for continuing to support and especially use of Cinelerra. Latest Release Notes inclusion: *********************************** GIT for Cinelerra-GG has the following changes from 04/01/2022-04/30/2022 *DPX image reader* added as provided *by Manual V* (with a couple of Andrew minor mods). This supports reading a DPX list file, but not writing at this time. *Bluray enhancements* as provided *by Andrew *include: 1) Additional “Profile” choice box with the default to be the current one in use with the *new “lpcm”* - linear pulse code modulation choice method of digitally encoding uncompressed audio info. 2) *Chapter interval* amount can be changed to a different value from the default of every 5 minutes by adding ' -c timeinterval in ticks' as the first argument to bdwrite in the bd.sh job generated by BD Render and then executing that job manually. On 1 test computer 100 ticks equaled 20 seconds. 3) New “*use tsmuxer*” option checkbox when rendering for Bluray output. Usage of tsmuxer requires that your computer have the tsmuxer software installed along with any of its prerequisites. The default will be as is currently with no tsmuxer. TsMuxer is a transport stream muxer for remuxing/muxing elementary streams. Although both lpcm and tsmuxer have been tested by Phyllis to function, due to lack of equipment there is no verification that using these sounded any different on current players. Minor changes were made in the following files to accommodate other operating systems such as bsd, ppc, netbsd, etc. : compile_multibit_x265.txt, bld_prepare.sh to add Arch, configure.ac, fileogg.C, filegif.C, file.C cinelerra/Makefile, guicast/Makefile, thirdparty/Makefile. Bug of uninitialized variables in trackcanvas.C fixed by Andrew.

Re: [Cin] line in manual saying 32-bit OS not enough for BD
by Andrew Randrianasulu 30 Apr '22

I think you can make BD if you set enough swap space something like modprobe zram echo 2000000000 > /sys/block/zram0/disksize mkswap /dev/zram0 swapon /dev/zram0 for 2 gb swap on 6 gb ram machine (usually pure 32 bit kernel can't see more than 4gb, but PAE kernel can, and you might have 64 bit kernel with 32-bit user apps/libs - thus 4 gb address space per process, and access to all physacal ram and 64-bit kernel optimizations and 64/32 bit x86 kvm!)

bluray lpcm update!
by Andrew Randrianasulu 29 Apr '22

29 Apr '22

Paul fixed bug preventing tsmuxer from recognizing our lpcm audio stream I backshoed fix into our ffmpeg 4.4.. I think having it all worked in monthly release quite important, even if names of patches kinda high... also attached raw pcm-bluenc file as I hacked it, and fix/patch as downloaded from gitweb.. https://github.com/justdan96/tsMuxer/issues/580 https://git.ffmpeg.org/gitweb/ffmpeg.git/blobdiff/037fa0437d2aead40c1f786c6… https://git.ffmpeg.org/gitweb/ffmpeg.git/commit/93dfb6afddb278218da7f8c696b…

Documentation on the EDL format
by Stefan de Konink 28 Apr '22

28 Apr '22

Hi, I have been working on <https://github.com/benfmiller/audalign> today regarding the "audio alignment problem". My goal is now to provide the clips as intermediate format EDL for Cinelerra, so the problem can be resolved outside first. The current EDL format "looks like XML" but certainly is not (for example attribute tags miss quotes etc.). Is there any documentation available on the EDL format itself? -- Stefan

Bluray - still Truehd problems +
by Phyllis Smith 25 Apr '22

25 Apr '22

Andrew, Status update for Bluray - I hate to give up on the rest of the bluray changes. Here is a list of current bluray patches problems from megapile_8. 1) Some concern about current lpcm/bluray checkin with error message of "*unknown bluray stream type pcm_bluray*" on my Fedora 32 laptop. BUT works on Ubuntu 16 and on Fedora 35 laptop (exact same model). I think there is some package that needs to be installed but is not on Fedora 32, but I have no idea what it could possibly be. At any rate, leaving checkin as is since when I create an appimage on the non-working Fedora 32 and move to the working Fedora 35, lpcm works just fine. Going back through a lot of email, I noticed that in January, Terje also got this error message and I believe he uses Leap O/S. 2) When I say "lpcm" works just fine, I only mean that the LG player attached to the TV, shows it is lpcm. I have no idea if it does what it is supposed to do. Not enough knowledge or speakers here. 3) Having verified that I am using the correct bdwrite, on all of the aforementioned computers, get "unknown bluray audio format 0 ch" from line 2469. Something is missing. Did apply 0004-Improve-truehd-decoder-encoder-from-ffmpeg.git.patch and uncommented truehd profile line 865 in bdcreate.C. 4) 0004-Improve-truehd-decoder-encoder-from-ffmpeg.git.patch when applied to the current GIT ffmpeg (which is what will be used in the next build) is out of alignment as seen in the build log below. BUT unless Truehd is working, there is no need for patch-5-8. patch -d ffmpeg* -p1 < src/ffmpeg-4.4.patch_5 Waf: Leaving directory `/mnt0/cinelerra-5.1/thirdparty/serd-0.30.4/build' yes 'build' finished successfully (0.852s) checking for memory.h... patching file libavcodec/mlpenc.c Hunk #1 succeeded at 100 (offset -3 lines). Hunk #2 succeeded at 126 (offset -3 lines). Hunk #3 succeeded at 199 (offset -3 lines). Hunk #4 succeeded at 1117 with fuzz 1 (offset -4 lines). Hunk #5 succeeded at 2219 (offset -6 lines). Hunk #6 succeeded at 2274 (offset -6 lines). Hunk #7 succeeded at 2310 with fuzz 1 (offset -6 lines). Hunk #8 succeeded at 2339 (offset -6 lines). Hunk #9 succeeded at 2383 (offset -6 lines). Hunk #10 succeeded at 2400 (offset -6 lines). patch -d ffmpeg* -p1 < src/ffmpeg-4.4.patch_6 patching file libavcodec/mlpenc.c Hunk #1 succeeded at 2384 with fuzz 1 (offset -6 lines). Hunk #2 succeeded at 2401 with fuzz 1 (offset -6 lines). 5) Also, again I have no idea if "tsmuxer" really does what it is supposed to do even though checked into GIT. When I create a bluray disc, it still plays on my LG so at least it did no harm. Someone else is going to have to verify this because I do not want to install tsmuxer/ninja on this laptop due to the fact that this is where I create the regular AppImage release. 6) 32-bit Debian version 11.0 had a compile error in bdwrite, BUT I have to check that out for sure. That version/computer is a slow build so I keep delaying. Will let you know. 7) OK, so now you can change the interval for chapter, but how does a user do that?
