Cherry-pick from cinelerra-qt6?

https://git.cinelerra-gg.org/?p=sam/cinelerra-gg-qt6.git;a=commit;h=f6f2f02… "MPEG 4:2:2: encode every macroblock row on any processor count" Yes, this is AI (Claude) assisted but I think we can trust Sam? I do not have this big host to test (may be -smp 16 will work with kvm, it worked with 8)

QT6 AppImage feedback discussion
by Phyllis Smith 16 Oct '26

16 Oct '26

Starting new queue for QT6 discussion (so ii does not end up under "Silly Question" que!). Downloaded the AppImage and really enjoy how moving the windows works. Played my standard test video/audio all the way with no issues. It looks and feels so much more flashy and not as stodgy. More to follow. THANKS SO MUCH to Sam for all of his current work and there is probably a much longer way to go!

Anylinux appimages
by Andrew Randrianasulu 15 Oct '26

15 Oct '26

Hello, all! I was re-visiting those anylinux appimages suggested some time ago, and I made test appimage from qemu-system-ppc64 fork (you probably need -L to point it to keymaps and such, and -bios to point it to openbios-ppc build, specific to this fork) https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1IBj91aP-mqZ8O2Hwjh6QjkBOGFhoYBFt?us… I wonder if Andrea,as our long time Arch user can make experimental Appimage of classic cingg, so we can test it on variety of systems? https://github.com/pkgforge-dev/Anylinux-AppImages/blob/main/HOW-TO-MAKE-TH… Of course if you have time/desire to test-run this workflow. My uneasiness comes from fact scrip downloads some prebuild libs and runtimes and appimagetool, too. May be run it in chroot/container/VM? I ran it in not so important chroot from flash drive ...

OT question (KDE/X11)
by Andrea paz 14 Oct '26

14 Oct '26

KDE 6.8 is coming out next week, and it removes XOrg, keeping only Wayland and XWayland. I wanted to keep both graphics servers so I could switch between them whenever I wanted. I found SonicDE (https://sonicde.org/) which is a KDE fork that keeps X11 and removes Wayland. However, as I understand it, it removes the KDE login manager (plasmalogin.service) and replaces it with Sonic Manager (soniclogin.service). So, I think I’d lose KDE/Wayland. Is it possible to keep both so that, when I start up my PC, I can choose which desktop environment to boot into?

Cinelerra-GG Qt6 port: alpha AppImage and source are online
by Phyllis Smith 12 Oct '26

12 Oct '26

Hi everyone, as you have already heard, Sam is porting Cinelerra-GG from its own X11 toolkit to Qt6. An alpha AppImage and the source are now on the Cinelerra-GG server: AppImage: https://download.cinelerra-gg.org/?path=qt6-alpha Source: https://git.cinelerra-gg.org/sam/cinelerra-gg-qt6.git Overview: https://www.cinelerra-gg.org/en/download Please read this first: - This is an alpha. Please do not use it for real projects. - The stable Cinelerra-GG continues as before. The port is developed in parallel and replaces nothing. - It uses the same settings folder as your normal Cinelerra (~/.bcast5). Make a copy of that folder before you start it. To start it: chmod +x CinGG-qt6-alpha-20261010-x86_64.AppImage ./CinGG-qt6-alpha-20261010-x86_64.AppImage Reports are very welcome. Please use the bug tracker at https://bug.cinelerra-gg.org and pick the category "Qt6 Alpha", so that reports about the port stay apart from reports about the stable version. A screenshot and the name of your distribution help a lot.

Cinelerra-GG Qt6 alpha: keyboard shortcuts can now be edited
by Sam 11 Oct '26

Cinelerra-GG Qt6 alpha: keyboard shortcuts can now be edited Hi everyone, The Cinelerra-GG Qt6 alpha AppImage of October 10 brings one change that touches everybody who works with the keyboard, so here is a short tour with pictures. * AppImage: https://download.cinelerra-gg.org/?path=qt6-alpha * Source: https://git.cinelerra-gg.org/sam/cinelerra-gg-qt6.git <https://git.cinelerra-gg.org/?p=sam/cinelerra-gg-qt6.git;a=summary> 1. A shortcut editor *Settings → Keyboard Shortcuts…* opens it, and so does the button "Edit shortcuts…" in *Preferences → Keyboard*. Shortcut editor with the drawn keyboard * All 258 commands are in one list, grouped by area: the menus of the main window, the panels (Viewer, Compositor, Resources), and the context menus of the timeline and of the Resources window. * Every command can have two keys. The column "Default" shows what Cinelerra-GG uses out of the box, and the arrow at the end of a row puts that back. * A click on a key field records a new key. Esc cancels, Del clears. * The search field finds a command by name, or, switched to "Key", by the key you press. In the picture below four commands use Space, one in each area. * The built-in set "Cinelerra-GG" stays as it is. Your first change starts a set "Custom". "Reset set…" goes back to the defaults. Search by key: four commands use Space 2. A drawn keyboard The button "Keyboard" shows a keyboard above the list. Keys with a command are blue, free keys are grey. Hold Ctrl, Shift or Alt and the picture changes to the keys taken with that modifier. Point at a key to read its command, click it to filter the list. German and US layout can be chosen. The drawn keyboard with Ctrl held 3. Conflicts are shown before they happen If the key you record already belongs to another command, the editor says which one and asks. "Assign" moves the key, the other command loses it. Nothing is overwritten silently. The editor reports a key conflict 4. Keys follow the active panel The same key can mean different things in the Viewer, the Compositor and the timeline. The panel you clicked last gets the keys, and a thin blue frame marks it. In the picture it is the Compositor at the top right: Space plays there, not on the timeline. The blue frame marks the active panel, here the Compositor Preferences → Keyboard has a switch "Panel under the mouse pointer takes the keys" for those who prefer that. Preferences, page Keyboard 5. Context keys on the timeline and in the Resources window The commands of the right-click menus can be run by key. The clip, track, effect, transition or keyframe you clicked last is marked and is the target: Del removes exactly that object, Ctrl+X cuts it, and so on. 60 timeline commands are in the editor under "Timeline context". Most of them have no key yet, so you can give them the ones you like. The context menus of the Resources window work the same way. The clicked clip is marked as the target of the keys What I would like to hear from you * Keys that do nothing, or do the wrong thing in one panel. * Menu keys that differ from the stable Cinelerra-GG. They should be the same, and a difference is a bug. * Commands you miss in the list. Please report in the bug tracker at https://bug.cinelerra-gg.org with the category *Qt6 Alpha*. This is an alpha, please do not use it for real projects. It shares the settings folder |~/.bcast5| with the stable version, so copy that folder before the first start. The editor pictures show an example set in which "Toggle label" was moved from L to K.

reference patch in MLT tree for ffmpeg 9
by Andrew Randrianasulu 02 Oct '26

02 Oct '26

https://github.com/mltframework/mlt/pull/1281/changes/68bceba12a3c3278ce690… of course ffmpeg devs invented yet another way to get supported sample/pixel formats out of codec internals .... Will try to make mplayer work first, then may be cinelerra.

Silly question
by Andrea paz 01 Oct '26

01 Oct '26

Foreword: My friends have been telling me enthusiastically about a CAD program for Linux that’s on par with AutoCAD and uses AutoCAD’s standard file formats. According to its author, this program—OpenCAD Studio ( https://github.com/HakanSeven12/OpenCADStudio)—was developed primarily using AI (Claude). Silly question: Can AI be used for some development in CinGG? It's a silly question because I don't know anything about programming or AI, but I'm curious about it.
