The AppImages for July are now available at: https://cinelerra-gg.org/download/images/ Unfortunately, the upgrade of OpenEXR as credited to Manuel V can not be done because I struggled and struggled to find a way to use "without-openexr" to also exclude Imath and could not find a way even tried checking cmake version to exclude and it still uses "forced" for Imath. I do not want to prevent older distrros having "cmake" lower than the required 3.12 from building; as long as they can build correctly "without-openexr'". Hopefully, a solution is still viable. Next following the work of Andrew and testing by Andrea will be testing the FFmpeg 5.1 upgrade. ********************************************************************************************************** *GIT for Cinelerra-GG has the following changes from 07/01/2022-07/31/2022* Library upgrades for the following: Libaom to 3.4.0 from 3.2.0 Libvpx to 1.12.0 from 1.11.0 Minor patches to configure.ac for needed configuration changes by Andrew.

Checked into GIT updated libraries

As Andrew provided patch updates and I checked on older versions of O/S (Ubuntu 16 and 32-bit Debian 9.1) the following have been updated: libaom-v3.4.0 (from v3.2.0) libvpx-1.12.0 (from 1.11.0) Be aware that if you switch back and forth between an older and newer version BE SURE TO "rebuild index" on you media file or you will see weirdness like I did because the rendered file is a different size between the old library version and the new library version. This will not be a problem for most people - probably just testers who use the same file names (like I always do!) Also, note that I will try to remember to "Credit" the comment in Git with the author because someone noted that that was not being done in Git. I had always put it in the Releasenotes.pdf as the appropriate place because seen by more people. Only programmers or users who do their own builds ever look at Git, but many more people look at the release notes because they want to see whether or not it is necessary to update to the latest release. So for example this latest checkin has the comment of: "Credit libaom/libvpx teams and Andrew patch update" You can stop reading this now, but I have to say in my defense on this Git oversite is that Git was created by Linus Torvalds (in Europe so was not known in the United States right away) in the year 2005. Although that was 17 years ago, it was not even available during our professional working years where we started out with Control Data Corporation and Cray mainframe computers. So basically the common consensus on the "proper" use of Git checkins is not even on my radar. End of rant!

Monitor profiling

Hi, I don't know how many users do monitor profiling (I remember an old discussion with Pierre...). It has been a long time since I did it but now that I tried to do it again I have unsatisfactory results in terms of brightness. The DeltaE is great (0.35) but the gamma is really high, such that it hurts the eyes after a short time. Also, the custom calibration disables the brightness/lightness OSD controls so I can't lower it. I used the Rec709 color space which has gamma 2.4 instead of the normal 2.2 value of the sRGB space. Actually with a higher gamma you should get darker results. My monitor (Dell UO2716D) is a wide gamut type and natively supports various color spaces: sRGB; Rec709; AdobeRGB and DCI-P3 (98%). It should have no problem with Rec709 at gamma 2.4. Can you explain why I get too bright a result? I use Argyll CMS with DisplayCAL and Datacolor Spyder5 colorimeter.

Hi, attached is an update blds/bld_prepare.sh script. It has two changes: - Extra entries to install the patchelf, boost_regex and boost_filesystem packages. - A fix for Suse, the test for the link was failing. @Andrea, did not have time to add an Arch/Manjaro section. Suse installs all packages, but it fails on the linking stage of the new makeappimage tool. Have to look at it. MatN

AppImages for June 2022 available but only a minor change

Just for consistency and because there was a need to add a fix for the Neophyte theme, I created June AppImages with very little change. I tried to update OpenEXR as provided by Manuel V and it worked just fine on a system that had cmake at 3.12 or greater but failed in Imath (as opposed to openexr) on systems with cmake lower than 3.12. I was OK with doing a build on these older systems by using --without-openexr but the configure.ac script as modified with the openexr provided patch would correctly not build openexr but still built Imath. Tried to fix this, however I do not understand much about how the configure.ac script works. Also, because of this, Imath in the thirdparty/src directory did not get deleted when running "make clean" either. In addition, although I got the attached script to work standalone, I could not get it stitched correctly into configure.ac as an alternative. Will keep trying so openexr can be upgraded next month so packages are kept as up to date as possible. (Plus still waiting for ffmpeg 5.1?) ******** GIT for Cinelerra-GG has the following changes from 06/01/2022-06/30/2022 ******* Numerous fixes to code and Makefile’s for *other distros by Andrew* + others and testing by Andrea: Needed for Android building, the libbthread code was added to the main CinGG directory. *IgorBegetto* has provided a new tutorial on Titles Animations: Lower Third effect at: https://youtu.be/m2UjsjiTlag The bld_prepare.sh script has been updated with 2 new options of “debian-testing” and “ubuntu- testing” to accommodate upcoming new operating system versions as *discovered by Miroslav*. *Neophyte theme* had a practically invisible disarmed track color as noted in issue BT 616 by Quintao which was probably an oversite but has now been fixed.

Compositor screen stays empty after playing with video fader

Creating a small 1080p video with one title track op top and four short movies, the title track did not yet have any titles in it. I was trying to play with the audio and video fader in the patch panel. Editing mode was drag/drop, keyframe while editing generation not enabled. The four videos are time shifted so they play with an empty second in between. Initially this works fine. Audio fader works fine, it shows as horizontal stripes in the patchbay with a vertical bar through it. If fader view is enabled (3 on the kbd) you see it moving with the fader. The video fader only shows horizontal stripes, not the vertical bar. Neither does the fader view show a horizontal line. After some clicking on the video fader the vertical bar appeared, as the the horizontal line in the video track. The compositor window went black and stays black, whatever I try; sound is normal. If the video is not playing, then you can make the "safe regions" appear/disappear (F10), so it seems the compositor itself is OK. The video fader only seems to know values 1 and 0, more a switch that a fader... I have had this twice in a row, after starting a new project each time. Disable, then enabling a video track in the patchbay makes no difference. CinGG AppImage was 2022-04, machine AMD 5700G, video mode X11-openGL (just X11 same problem), hardware accel not working. Exiting and reloading CinGG make no difference, the only way to get the compositor back is start a new project; therefore it must be a stored setting somewhere. In the project .xml file the MUTEAUTOs and FADEAUTOS settings look the same for audio and video, else I don know what to look for. Obviously I am doing something wrong, any suggestions? MatN
