AppImage and Desktop Integration with an app launcher
by Terje J. Hanssen 12 May '21

12 May '21

Hi, First, I want to say that I've installed the latest CinGG AppImage on Leap 15.3 RC according to the Readme file, and it started quick and easy via the command line :) Maybe this has already been discussed or mentioned, but I wanted to keep the previous style CinGG package desktop integration with an app launcher icon. To add this I used the "alacarte" Menu editor for Gnome and utilized the previous installed icon /usr/share/pixmap/cinx.svg. Also other methods for generic X desktops maybe works, while the Gnome Extension "MyLauncher" was not currently compatible with my Leap 15.3 Gnome shell version. Terje J. Hanssen

Short list of what is currently being worked on here
by Phyllis Smith 11 May '21

11 May '21

Just a short update list of what i know to be currently active and in order of priority: 1) Continued testing/documentation of Georgy's *alt/h "Help"* implementation (has been checked into GIT). Andrea has been keeping the documentation up to date. 2) Testing of Andrew's fix of *Memory leak* that DeJay discovered and I had commented out to get past it temporarily (I am having trouble with my tests because I deleted the case that I was using that easily displayed the issue so that I could tell that it is now fixed). But this is important to get the correction in. 3) *FFmpeg 4.4 upgrade* with Andrea and me testing what we can and Andrew providing the "real work" with patches/how-to/etc. 4) A "freelancer" has been tasked with working on BT #559 - the *fade/flash bug* when using alpha in the Title Plugin and Dissolve Transition. It is not clear if this person is up to the challenge. 5) *Histogram plugin* changes from HV 7.3 to include the option *for seeing Luma onl*y besides Color (I am struggling with this because the differences between HV and GG are becoming so diverse, that I do not think I will be able to sort it out).

Few patches for thirdparty (mostly for termux compilation)

I still can't link properly main cin executable, but coming closer with just pthread stuff missing and two ac3 symbols: === cinelerra/cinelerra-5.1/cinelerra' make[2]: warning: -j14 forced in submake: resetting jobserver mode. clang++ -o /data/data/com.termux/files/home/cingg/cinelerra/cinelerra-5.1/cinelerra/../bin/cin `cat armv8l/objs` /data/data/com.termux/files/usr/bin/ld: /data/data/com.termux/files/usr/bin/ld: DWARF error: could not find variable specification at offset 1e1 armv8l/file.o: in function `File::get_options(FormatTools*, int, int)':/data/data/com.termux/files/home/cingg/cinelerra/cinelerra-5.1/cinelerra/file.C:176: undefined reference to `FileAC3::get_parameters(BC_WindowBase*, Asset*, BC_WindowBase*&, int, int, EDL*)' /data/data/com.termux/files/usr/bin/ld: armv8l/file.o: in function `File::open_file(Preferences*, Asset*, int, int)': /data/data/com.termux/files/home/cingg/cinelerra/cinelerra-5.1/cinelerra/file.C:546: undefined reference to `FileAC3::FileAC3(Asset*, File*)' /data/data/com.termux/files/usr/bin/ld: /data/data/com.termux/files/home/cingg/cinelerra/cinelerra-5.1/cinelerra/../guicast/armv8l/libguicast.a(thread.o): in function `Thread::entrypoint(void*)': /data/data/com.termux/files/home/cingg/cinelerra/cinelerra-5.1/guicast/thread.C:54: undefined reference to `pthread_setcanceltype(int, int*)' /data/data/com.termux/files/usr/bin/ld: /data/data/com.termux/files/home/cingg/cinelerra/cinelerra-5.1/guicast/thread.C:56: undefined reference to `pthread_setcancelstate(int, int*)' /data/data/com.termux/files/usr/bin/ld: /data/data/com.termux/files/home/cingg/cinelerra/cinelerra-5.1/cinelerra/../guicast/armv8l/libguicast.a(thread.o): in function `Thread::cancel()': /data/data/com.termux/files/home/cingg/cinelerra/cinelerra-5.1/guicast/thread.C:123: undefined reference to `pthread_cancel(long)' /data/data/com.termux/files/usr/bin/ld: /data/data/com.termux/files/home/cingg/cinelerra/cinelerra-5.1/cinelerra/../guicast/armv8l/libguicast.a(thread.o): in function `Thread::enable_cancel()': /data/data/com.termux/files/home/cingg/cinelerra/cinelerra-5.1/guicast/thread.C:165: undefined reference to `pthread_setcancelstate(int, int*)' /data/data/com.termux/files/usr/bin/ld: /data/data/com.termux/files/home/cingg/cinelerra/cinelerra-5.1/cinelerra/../guicast/armv8l/libguicast.a(thread.o): in function `Thread::disable_cancel()': /data/data/com.termux/files/home/cingg/cinelerra/cinelerra-5.1/guicast/thread.C:173: undefined reference to `pthread_setcancelstate(int, int*)' clang-12: error: linker command failed with exit code 1 (use -v to see invocation) make[2]: *** [Makefile:520: /data/data/com.termux/files/home/cingg/cinelerra/cinelerra-5.1/cinelerra/../bin/cin] Error 1 make[2]: Leaving directory '/data/data/com.termux/files/home/cingg/cinelerra/cinelerra-5.1/cinelerra' make[1]: *** [Makefile:544: all-recursive] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory '/data/data/com.termux/files/home/cingg/cinelerra/cinelerra-5.1' make: *** [Makefile:500: all] Error 2 == Even if I manually combined *. o files from libcancelthread.a and libguicast.a But along the way I made few patches... They affect android-specific parts of buildsystem in libaom (upgraded to 3.1.0 release) and libwebp-1.1.0.. Also opus build fails in test_api, I disabled it.. Ffmpeg-4.4 should be ready to drop in, on termux there were cryptic errors in aac encoder and hevc and opus (due to B0 being already defined somewhere) but I hacked those files (renamed B0 to B0_) and whole ffmpeg was build.. For ffmpeg testing just put official 4.4 tarball in thirdparty/src change ffmpeg-4.3.0 to ffmpeg-4.4.0 in configure.ac, /autogen.sh and configure & & make as usual (my configure.ac hack contain other changes) If you want to test new libaom you can repack it from gz snapshot: https://aomedia.googlesource.com/aom/+archive/c0f14141bd71414b004dccd66d48b… Be aware it unpacks in current directory, So create some empty libaom-v3.1.0 and unpack this archive from there....

CinGG and ffmpeg 4.4
by Andrea paz 04 May '21

04 May '21

With the release of FFMPEG 4.4 I tried to compile CinGG with git-ffmpeg. I used the following command from ./configure: ./configure --with-single-user --with-git-ffmpeg --with-booby And then I compiled with: make 2>&1 | tee /tmp/cin5.log && make install The compilation crashes immediately with the cin5.log that I attach. Do you have any advice for me or is this an impossible task for a non-programmer?

Haiku OS (offtop? )
by Andrew Randrianasulu 30 Apr '21

30 Apr '21

Hi All. I was reading this article https://www.haiku-os.org/blog/animortis/2021-04-27_my_first_week_with_haiku/ And there was interesting line: ===== The new video editor Medo natively handled 4K and offered multilingual translations. Plus, it also weighed in at about four megabytes and opened just as quickly. ==== I wonder if anyone on desktop can try this OS/NLE in virtual machine and write a bit more about how it works? (iirc they do not have gpu accel for most cards, no 3d, some Intel gpu may have hw 2d/overlay functionality) I do not think Cin can be easily ported to it, at least as gui app (no X server there, yet?), but this is interesting effort, imo more interesting than using Linux gui apps on still closed-source (and worse) Windows... Also, can anyone try accessing cinelerra-gg website via tor with javascript disabled?

Appimage and background rendering
by Andrea paz 29 Apr '21

29 Apr '21

Regarding appimage, in a comment on one of my videos I was asked: "1- when I enable lv2 plugins, cinelerra never loads up on me. 2- is background rendering and render farm in CLI mode works now, when Cinelerra-GG is distributed as AppImage?" I actually can't do background rendering from the terminal; I get a loop of LV2 loading and CinGG won't start. Do you know how to do it?

What about flapak?
by W P 24 Apr '21

24 Apr '21

First of all thank you MatN (as from what I understood you were the person who allowed appimage to be built), I followed the recent switch to appimage and I understand it makes sense as there is no need for different builds. Just one thought, why appimage and not flatpak? I prefer flatpak but my personal preference doesn't matter, I think the only cons of flatpak compared to appimage is the larger size (in today's world it should not be an issue but I realized that for many good internet is not a thing yet). However I would like to point out which IMHO is the best advantage of flatpak over appimage, flathub, the repo where many, popular FLOSS softwares are present. I remember reading appimage has something similar but I think it is nowhere near as popular as flathub. A search for 'video editor' shows many cinelerra 'competitors' but no cinelerra :/ https://flathub.org/apps/search/video%20editor Are there plans in the future to offer a flatpak of cinelerra as well?

A few questions about cinelerra-gg
by Zeke Williams 14 Apr '21

14 Apr '21

How good is cinelerra[-gg] for animation post production? I mean traditional animation taken with a camera and then has to be edited on a computer. Also, if I expect stability, how good is cinelerra-gg for that? Would I be better off with a different version of cinelerra rather than cinelerra-gg? Thank you.

AppImage latest release 0331
by Phyllis Smith 07 Apr '21

07 Apr '21

A new AppImage is available at the following url with 20210331 as the date for newest and older distros: https://cinelerra-gg.org/download/images/ Very few changes but the extra Memory usage is at least commented out in this version. You can see the updates in releaseenotes.pdf or below. I have to update News and information about BT #566 yet before the end of my day. ****************************************************** *GIT for Cinelerra-GG has the following changes from 03/01/2021-03/31/2021* HV 7.3 modifications added to include: Posterize plugin for creating poster-like videos. Timelapse Helper plugin for speeding up video by some number of frames per block. DeJay reported a greater memory usage in the last release and the cause has been fixed temporarily. SGE completed getting the updates for latex2html officially released to make the HTML manual easier. Yoko has volunteered to do Japanese translation of the website. MatN updated wikipedia for the 0228 AppImage release and reviewed the HV 7.3 release. Andrea has continuously worked on the manual to keep it updated with recent developments. Sam has performed maintenance/updates on the server and keeps it running very smoothly. Elive support is now generously providing a stable Debian release for anyone to use.
