Early last week marked the fifth anniversary of Bill Morrow's passing,
our esteemed developer and friend, who tragically lost his life in a
bicycle accident.
Five years have passed, but his legacy lives on in every line of code he
wrote for Cinelerra-GG. Bill's passion for free software, his creative
solutions, and his tireless commitment to the community shaped this
project. He never hesitated to tackle even small improvements if they
made users' lives easier.
In his spirit and in the spirit of Phyllis and all the other supporters
and helping hands, we want to continue advancing the project. The new
server and the new mailing list are already up and running – a few
details still need to be finalized, but that's coming soon. This
modernized infrastructure and updated software will make Cinelerra-GG
future-proof and support the community even better. Bill would have been
delighted with this development – it corresponds exactly to his
commitment to continuous improvement. I thank you for your patience –
the migration took a bit longer than planned due to technical issues.
What remains is the memory of an outstanding developer and a wonderful
person who worked selflessly for the cause of free software. Through his
work, he made this world a bit better.
Heartfelt thanks go to the entire community that has carried and
supported this project over all these years. I deeply appreciate
Phyllis's work, and I'm sure many others in the community do as well –
my sincere thanks go to Phyllis for her wonderful support. We also
extend our gratitude to Adam Williams, the original creator of
Cinelerra, for his brilliant idea and groundbreaking work, and to all
those who have contributed to this codebase over the years, including
those who have extended the code in other forks. Special thanks also to
the new developers who continue to advance the project with their
commitment and contributions – Bill would have been very happy about you
and would have been proud of how you are continuing his work. Together,
we keep Bill's vision alive.
Thank you for everything, Bill. We miss you.
