Possible mxf profile fixes
by Andrew Randrianasulu 27 Jun '26

27 Jun '26

I think my patch "Do not set our options for mxf muxer" is not needed really, because it was different set of errors and it only "worked" because I failed to properly change profiles during my testing on Termux? I'll keep it around just in case. I tried to add g=1 to our DNxHR/dv mxf profiles too just in case, accidently added two .seg profiles I was testing some time ago (for segmented muxing) Changed openjpeg mxf profile to use internal jpeg2000 encoder, libopenjpeg based one is seems to be gone from ffmpeg (note decoder may still be there) Added g=25 to our mxf_h264_annex_b profile, may be it will work after this change? Not really tested yet, too many machines (real and virt) trying to do many things at once.

Re: render problem
by Andrea paz 26 Jun '26

Using CinGG compiled with your patch, I ran some tests with an H.264/MP4 source file and an audio track. When I set g=1 and b=100M, I keep getting the same errors. If I don't render the audio and set g=1 and b=100M, everything works fine. The resulting file is 2.1GB. When I don't render the audio and don't use those two parameters (i.e., using the original preset), the rendering works (file size is 25.3MB), but I get a long list of warnings: file:/home/paz/test_avc.mxf err: Not yet implemented in FFmpeg, patches welcome FFStream::encode_frame: encode failed. file: /home/paz/test_avc.mxf err: Not yet implemented in FFmpeg, patches welcome FFMPEG::mux_video err: Operation not permitted FFStream::write_packet: write packet failed. file:/home/paz/test_avc.mxf err: Not yet implemented in FFmpeg, patches welcome FFStream::encode_frame: encode failed. file: /home/paz/test_avc.mxf err: Not yet implemented in FFmpeg, patches welcome FFMPEG::mux_video err: Operation not permitted FFStream::write_packet: write packet failed. The difference in size makes me think that our mxf_avcintra_100.mxf preset is actually of the LongGOP type. I found some old FFmpeg bugs (not in FFmpeg 8, though) related to LongGOP sources that caused problems when converting to MXF. I also found other old bugs that mentioned that transcoding to MXF could cause problems due to Annex-B (which I don’t know what it is). For example: https://patchwork.ffmpeg.org/project/ffmpeg/patch/AM7PR03MB66600B2742E305A9… Could they be related to our case, even though we're using FFmpeg 8? P.S.: I'm sorry, but I won't be around for a couple of days.

render problem
by Andrea paz 25 Jun '26

25 Jun '26

On MantisBT, Quintao filed a bug report (BT 677) because he can't render avc_intra_100 in MXF format. He can, however, use MXF with DNxHR. I, on the other hand, can't use any MXF presets, but I can render avc_intra_100 in MOV format. Are any of you able to render in MXF?

Batchrender patch
by Andrea paz 21 Jun '26

21 Jun '26

I was wondering if Andrew's patch for batch rendering (batchrender_postmerge_xml_check.diff) is already in Git. Even though it fixes a very rare issue, I think it's useful because it prevents us from corrupting the (non-XML) file we're targeting. I recall that if we run a command-line render and mistakenly target any file other than the XML project file, that file gets completely corrupted. PS: It seems to me that it also handles simple command-line rendering, not just batch rendering.

Surprising to see Cinelerra mentioned in AI
by Phyllis Smith 17 Jun '26

I realize that most people do not like Google's AI output when you do a search, but I was surprised to see mention of "Cinelerra" in the output when I did a lookup of "AudioOSS::open_output: No such file or directory". P.S. I made the Cinelerra below in Huge letters just so it would stand out. AI Overview This error usually means the application is trying to use legacy Open Sound > System (OSS) drivers, or an audio device is missing or misconfigured. mjpeg capture from webcam
by Andrew Randrianasulu 15 Jun '26

15 Jun '26

Hello all! I am not dead, just playing around with my old new powerpc toy ;) Unfortunately big endian machines quite rare thing today so some bugs creept in. But after filing some bugreports I decided to see how it works with my yesteryear webcam. Well, default ffmpeg -i /dev/video0 uses uncompressed YUV2 stream and framerate drops to 10 fps for 720p and to 5 fps for 1080p ffmpeg -s 1920x1080 -pix_fmt mjpeg -i /dev/video0 -c:v copy -f mov -frames 900 ~/camera.mov this line one the other hand captures at 50 fps, 12.6 mbytes per second ;) I really need to fix our mjpeg capture ...

More big endian fixes ?
by Andrew Randrianasulu 05 Jun '26

So I was having a blast (esp. in open firmware ;) ) with my new G5. Compiled Cinelerra-gg on Slackware ~current ppc32 (gcc 15.2.0). But sadly sound was broken? I suspected ffmpeg but even native way sounded wrong, but rendered correctly?! Turned out both ALSA and Pulseaudio hardcoded LE variant, and at least on Slackware alsa offered BE variant - picked by speaker-test utility. I added code to use this or old variant depending on BC_Resources::little_endian and it seems to sound fine now on both outputs? Can you please test on le ? (usual intel/arm)

Finalized new server website + updated AppImages and release notes
by Phyllis Smith 31 May '26

31 May '26

Of course, the big news for the month of May is all of the work that Sam did on finalizing/updating the cinelerra-gg.org website on a new server. This was very much appreciated because the original server/format was put into effect in 2018. AppImages have been updated. The month of May release notes portion is below and I apologize if I forgot to get everything in there that was done. ********** Release Notes ********** GIT for Cinelerra-GG has the following changes from 05/01/2026-05/31/2026 *Website major work by Sam:* Totally updated www.cinelerra-gg.org website released on new server on May 12. As previously announced you can now easily get to the location you need via the website or use these directly: - Mailing list cin(a)lists.cinelerra-gg.org - Bug tracker bug.cinelerra-gg.org - Download server download.cinelerra-gg.org - Git server git.cinelerra-gg.org *Mail *was moved from a third-party provider to Mailcow on the server on 5/1. Advantages include: - Independence from external providers. - Full control over spam filtering, DKIM, archives. - One server, one bill, simpler administration long-term. - Better integration with the new Discourse Forum which sends notification mail through this server. *Forum* has been switched from WordPress to Discourse – a much better supported modern, dedicated forum connected directly to Mail. This has the same advantages as listed above for Mail. IgorB contributed an image for the website that was less confusing without console/multi-monitors. *Andrew-R work:* - Accept “q” as an additional option in the tipwindow to close in addition to current ESC, w, RETURN. - Remove turbojpeg-specific library build from turbojpeg which is not being used in CinGG. - *Updated x265* from 4.0 to 4.2 which now includes enabling of HEVC alpha encoding with addition of render format: h265_alpha.mp4. - A new command line switch “-l” has been added with the default working the same as before without using this new “-l” parameter; that is the default of the “l” loadmode of “replace current”. The most Useful values to set are 2 to load concatenated on one track (for jpegs) or 6 to load as resources only. Example usage: bin/cin -l 6 ~/*.jpg or bin/cin -l 2 ~/*.jpg. - Build fixes for BSD version 15.0 have been added. - There is now *lcms2* configure support for internal ffmpeg. *Andrea* tested and provided a lot of feedback as a result. This option defaults to auto and was tested as working with lcms2 2.18. Probably additional testing and usage is needed. - Simple *opencolorio* enable for ffmpeg is also now available but has not been tested to any extent.

Patch: build fixes for FreeBSD 15.0
by Andrew Randrianasulu 26 May '26

26 May '26

I decided to try new BSD and of course something changed since last time I tried, spend some time troubleshooting configure script, turned out echo as built in and echo as /bin/echo behave differently! So I hope I fixed our scripts without breaking Linuxes. I patched cingg on Termux and there configure appeared and worked.
